Discover the remarkable true story of a small town that welcomed the world. Do you remember where you were on 9/11 as the news broke? I was standing in line collecting my son after his first week at school. We were all dumbstruck for weeks to come but did you hear the story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada?
Come from Away is their story and it has landed in the UK at London’s Phoenix Theatre.
This joyous new musical tells the incredible, real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives.
t’s a story about a small town helping the world at this difficult time. 38 flights were grounded for 5 days in Newfoundland. Watch the story unfold as these passengers were stranded, not knowing what had happened, with no access to their luggage.
The story is of trust, happiness, sadness, confusion and the start of life long friendships.
The show runs for 100 minutes with no interval. The cast of 12 vary their roles to present the views from both the “come from aways” and the residents.
Every member of the cast is valuable but I cannot leave my review without commenting on the outstanding performance by Rachel Tucker.
Leave the theatre feeling uplifted by the story of hope and friendship.
