Strictly Ballroom follows two outsiders as they battle against the strictures of Australian competitive ballroom dancing. It stars Jonny Labey, Zizi Strallen and Matt Cardle, who does most of the singing as the evening’s glittering MC, waltzing his way through a jukebox playlist of hits, from Sting, to Bowie, to REM, to Whitney Houston.
I have read so many reviews of this show some good some not so. I saw this first with Will Young in previews back in April and can see that the script has been adapted slightly, it is now more comedic with genuine laugh out loud moments. Matt Cardle has replaced Will Young as MC and I think he seemed more natural rather than Will’s slightly overplayed version of the MC.
The sets were simple but effective, the story was true to the film with a modern twist on the music. Costumes are amazing and the atmosphere was electric. All round brilliant experience. If you loved the film, get booked up!
The stars of the show are Zizi Strallen and Jonny Labey who just have amazing chemistry. I was lucky to be sat in row K of the stalls so I had a great view of the stage and of course the actors faces. It is always great to be able to see the actors expressions.
When Fran and Scott are together you are actually lost in their chemistry which is all expressed through their mesmering dancing.
With so many fabulous ticket offers available through London Theatre Direct it was disappointing that the theatre wasn’t full.

I was very lucky to win my tickets with London Theatre Direct who regularly host competitions on their twitter account @londontheatredirect
