Dorothy Koomson is an award-winning author of 14 novels Her published titles include: The Friend, When I Was Invisible, That Girl From Nowhere, The Flavours of Love, The Woman He Loved Before, Goodnight, Beautiful and The Chocolate Run.
I absolutely loved Dorothy’s latest book The Brighton Mermaid which was published in May 2018.
This is the synoposis.
Brighton Beach, 1993
Teenagers Nell and Jude find the body of a young woman and when no one comes to claim her, she becomes known as the Brighton Mermaid. Nell is still struggling to move on when, three weeks later, Jude disappears.
Twenty-five years on, Nell is forced to quit her job to find out who the Brighton Mermaid really was – and what happened to her best friend that summer.
But as Nell edges closer to the truth, dangerous things start to happen. Someone seems to be watching her every move, and soon she starts to wonder who in her life she can actually trust…
Like all of her books, this really has you guessing right up until the end, there were some twists and turns along the way
It is a really insightful story, which shows how a tragedy can tear apart a family & sadly how race is still an issue for some people.
Dorothy’s characters each have their own story which and she writes from each of their perspective which makes it an even more fascinating read. We see the characters now and head back to their story in 1993 which makes Dorothy’s style of writing so interesting.
If you like a thought provoking read then this is definitely one to try.
