This book is enchanting it slowly tells the tale about Alice and Max who are both on holiday in Sri Lanka. Alice is celebrating her 30th birthday with friends whilst Max is on a journey of rehabilitation.
Alice is a in a long term somewhat destructive relationship where it appears that it is easier to stay and please everyone than to take a dive and actually do something for herself. Max is learning how to live again after a life changing injury and together they journey with friends through the beautiful landscape of Sri Lanka.
Isabelle clearly describes the landscapes and people and it is obvious from her writing that she has visited the country as part of her research. As with all her books she is so descriptive that you can actually imagine yourself on location with the characters.
Take a journey with a group of friends, admire the sites, take a tuktuk or a bus, trek up the mountains to catch a sunrise or just watch the stars at night. It is a beautiful read.
